When you are getting close to getting out of the military, or just looking for a new job, you may want to consider working for Uncle Sam. The Federal government has more jobs than any other employer and there certainly are a number of good incentives to go with it, too. Here are some reasons why you will want to look at working for the Federal government.

The government has just about any kind of job available that you can think of. This can range anywhere from cooks to computer experts, to clerks and counter-terrorism personnel. In all, there are more than 400 different job specialties, and more than 1.7 million jobs to be constantly filled. If you have a particular skill that is marketable, you can probably find that there is an opening for you. You can easily find these openings online, along with the various requirements.

If you are now in the military - getting ready to make your military transition, then you need to know that the government gives preference to you. All you need to do, when you submit your resume, is to make sure you claim military preference and you will be given a better opportunity by points being added to your testing scores. Your training and leadership abilities are valuable to the government, and so is your security clearance - if you have one. This little feature can add at least $5,000 a year to your yearly income. Besides this, military personnel must also the last to be laid off - if that should ever become necessary.

The benefits of working for the government are excellent - similar to what you might find in the military. Besides the good pay, you will also have health benefits and several options for retirement.

Federal jobs can work especially well for you if you should be near some government facility or military base. Otherwise, you may need to move to be near where the job is available. But if you need to travel to get the job, why not be open to something that may even be a little more exotic? The United States government has agencies, bases, and other facilities all around the globe. You can opt to work somewhere you may not otherwise be able to travel to and have a good job while there, too.

Finding the exact job position that you are looking for, though, may be a little difficult. The Federal standardized the various job titles - making some obvious and others will need a little translation in order to know exactly what they mean. So with a little patience, you can soon find the position that matches (or at least comes close) to your interests and abilities.

In order to qualify for a government position, however, you will need to submit a Federal resume. This is very much different from a regular resume, so you will definitely need to read up on it. The best way, however, and one that is recommended, is that you contact a professional Federal resume writer, and work with them to produce a product that will get you noticed right away. He or she would know the ins and outs of what is required and can certainly produce a fine document for you, with the required KSA's, too.
